Emergency services race to Kirkcaldy Oriel Road 'rope rescue' involving a dog

Dramatic pictures tonight have emerged of a rescue mission near Oriel Road in Kirkcaldy, with several fire vehicles, police cars, and the ambulance service in attendance.

Fife Jammer Locations shared the image on Facebook tonight to alert the local community about what was going on.

It has been confirmed to Edinburgh Live that the incident involved a dog being rescued at a nearby woodland area after it came into difficulties.

The dog is now understood to be safe and well but has been taken to the vet by its owner after possibly sustaining injuries.

Scottish Fire and Rescue said: "At 17:32pm we were called to a woodland area near Oriel Road in Kirkcaldy after a dog required to be rescued. A rope rescue team were dispatched from Lochgelly.

"Tho dog was handed back over to the owner and is believed to have sustained a broken leg."

A police spokesperson said: "At around 17.45 pm on 14 February 2021, officers were called to assist Scottish Fire and Rescue at Oriel road, Kirkcaldy, with traffic management while they dealt with an animal welfare issue.

"The incident has been concluded and we would like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding during this time."
