Emergency services race to Hamilton street after reports of OAP being hit by a car

Emergency services rushed to Hamilton town centre this morning after reports of an elderly man being hit by a car.

Paramedics and police were on the scene at around 9.30am after he was struck by a vehicle at the pedestrian crossing on Leechlee Road.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: ”Around 9.30am on Friday, November 13, officers received a report of a pedestrian being hit by a car on Leechlee Road, Hamilton.

“A 90-year-old man was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment to serious injuries.

“Enquiries remain ongoing.”

Cops have since taped off the area.

South Lanarkshire Council have also advised motorists using the area that there is now an emergency road closure put in place.

A post on their Facebook page states: “Emergency road closure: Due to a road traffic incident in Hamilton the westbound right turn lane on Brandon Street (between the top cross and Leechlee Road) is closed. Diversion is currently in place.”
