Emergency services raced to frozen loch to rescue dog who fell in chasing swan

Fire crews yesterday saved a dog that fell into a frozen loch as it chased a swan – much to the relief of the pet’s owner.

A witness described the rescue of the springer spaniel at Frankfield Loch in Stepps, Glasgow, saying: “It was really impressive. The firemen broke the ice then went in on a dinghy.

"The fireman at the front kept breaking ice and pulling the dinghy forward.

“The dog was quite far into the loch and I think the owner must have tried to go in as she looked wet.”

The dog looked grateful to be back with its owner and was picture wrapped up warm in a blanket.

Icy conditions added to the danger of the situation with much of the loch's surface freezing over.

Storm Darcy dubbed 'Beast from the East 2' has seen huge snowfall across Scotland alongside frost and ice.
