Emergency services race to fire in Scots town amid ongoing incident

Emergency services have raced to the report of a large fire in Hamilton this evening.

Fire crews have scrambled to Johnstone Road in the town after smoke began billowing from the area at the Mercedes-Benz dealership.

It's not yet clear if it is the car dealership itself which has gone up in flames, but footage from the scene shows several firefighters at the premises.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue service told the Record they deployed four appliances to the scene after receiving a report at 6.19pm and they are currently battling the blaze.

The extent of the damage is not yet known but there are no reported casualties.

"Smoke pouring out the Mercedes garage, fire brigades in attendance!"

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police were called to reports of a fire at a property on Johnstone Road, Hamilton around 6.30pm on Saturday 27 February 2021.

"Officers are at the scene to assist with colleagues from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service."
