Emergency services race to Edinburgh tracks after person struck by train

Police have raced to a busy Edinburgh railway line after a person was struck by a train.

Emergency services were called at around 7pm on Wednesday following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

The train line between Haymarket and Edinburgh Gateway has now been closed to allow for officers to deal with the incident.

The extent of the person’s injuries are not currently known.

Train services in the area have been cancelled with travellers being warned to expect disruption.

ScotRail tweeted: “Sadly, a person has been hit by a train between Haymarket and Edinburgh Gateway.

“The line is currently closed while emergency services attend.”
