Emergency services race to Edinburgh's Grassmarket after man 'falls down Castle steps'

A man is understood to have fallen down a steep flight of steps near Edinburgh Castle and has been rushed to hospital.

Emergency services were called to the steep Granny's Green Steps, leading from the Royal Mile down to the Grassmarket, around 4pm on Wednesday January 13.

He is believed to have injured himself on a section of the walkway near to the Cold Town House bar.

Pictures from the scene showed a number of paramedics treating the man on the steps, before leading him away for treatment on a medical stretcher.

Police officers were also in attendance.

The man's condition is currently unknown.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: "We received a call today to attend an incident on King Stables Road in Edinburgh.

"We dispatched two ambulances to the scene and transported one patient to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.”
