Police confirm teenager has died in Loch Lomond incident near Balloch

Police Scotland have confirmed that a 16-year-old boy lost his life in Loch Lomond this evening (July 23).

A large police presence was seen in Balloch as a major operation got underway, with search and rescue teams racing to the area around 6.00pm.

The Coastguard Helicopter was also involved in the search, along with vessels from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Loch Lomond Rescue Boat.

Fire service divers were also seen near the pier at Balloch Castle Country Park.

Tonight Police Scotland confirmed the tragic death of a teenager.

In a statement they said: "We were called around 5.55pm on Friday, 23 July, 2021 following a report of a concern for a person in the water at Balloch Country Park.

"Emergency services attended and male youth who was recovered from the water was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Formal identification has still to take place but the family of a 16-year-old man have been informed.

"There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
