Three fire engines raced to 9 Hill Place, just off Glasgow Street, at around 11.20am this morning after reports of a fire.

The road was cordoned off as the firefighters tackled the blaze.

Speaking about the incident, one local said: "There were two fire engines, an ambulance car and a fire car.

"There was about eight firefighters there and they were dealing with someone on the ground, it looked like they were giving them air.

"Apparently they had to evacuate the flats because of a fire in them."

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have since confirmed that the fire is now extinguished.
