Emergency services help biker injured in car crash outside West Monkseaton Metro station

A biker has been injured in a crash with a car in North Tyneside.

The collision happened near West Monkseaton Metro Station at around 9.45am on Friday and involved a car and a man on a motorbike.

Several paramedics were called to the scene to treat the biker who had leg injuries.

The motorcyclist was then taken by ambulance to the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) in Newcastle.

Earsdon Road in West Monkseaton was closed for a short while as debris was cleared from the road.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “At 9.49am today, police received a report of a collision involving a motorcyclist and a car near West Monkseaton Metro Station, North Tyneside.

“Emergency services attended and a male motorcyclist was taken to hospital with leg injuries. They are not thought to be life-threatening at this time.

“The road was temporarily closed as a clean-up operation took place, but has since reopened. Witnesses to the collision are asked to call 101 quoting reference 244 120419.”

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 9.42am to a road traffic collision involving a motorbike.

"We dispatched a rapid response paramedic, the crew from our Hazardous Area Response Team and a double crewed ambulance.

"We transported one patient to the RVI."
