"Emergency services handled it brilliantly" - electrician speaks out about Saughton 'gas leak'

Seven workers from Edinburgh City Electrical Contractors (ECEC) have been rushed to hospital after taking ill after a suspected gas leak at Saughton Park in, Edinburgh.

John Alexander was one of the employees who was sick, and spoke to The Sun about his experience. He said:

"I work with ECEC as an electrician and was working on the site when seven of us became nauseous.

"Emergency services were called and handled the situation brilliantly.

"We are okay and just being monitored. Nobody was injured and the exposure was unexplained."

A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 12.23pm on Friday, April 12 to reports of a suspected gas leak at a public garden in Saughton Park, Edinburgh.

“Operations Control mobilised one fire engine to the scene.

“Seven people have been taken to hospital as a precaution by the Scottish Ambulance Service.

“Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was safe.”

A spokesperson for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We received a call today to attend an incident at Saughton Park in Edinburgh.

"We dispatched our special operations team, one ambulance, a Patient Transport Service resource, and a manager to the scene. We transported seven patients to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary .”

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland added: "We were called to a business premises at Balgreen Road at around 12.30pm.

"A number of staff members had taken unwell.

"We are supporting the fire service and ambulance service in their response."
