Emergency services descend on waterfront after hoax call

Emergency services descended on the waterfront after a report a person had jumped in the water, however it was a hoax call.

Police, fire, ambulance and rescue service were called to an incident on Tobin Street in Egremont, on the waterfront at around 6.20am today, Tuesday November 29. Emergency services rushed to the scene after receiving a report that a "person had jumped in the water".

Pictures of the scene showed numerous fire engines, police and a search and rescue team looking in the water. However, this turned out to be a false report.

The incident was stood down at 7.32am. A spokesperson for Merseyside Police: "With regards to the incident on Tobin Street, we were called out at around 6.20am following a report that a person had jumped in the water, but it was a false report and the incident was stood down soon afterwards."

A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire and Rescue said: "Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service was called to Tobin Street, Egremont, on Tuesday, November 29 following reports of a person in the water.

"Crews were called shortly after 6.20am. Two fire engines, the search and rescue appliance and the service's rescue boat, marine fire one, were sent to the scene. Merseyside Police and the coastguard also attended.

"Following a search of the area and a multi agency meeting, fire crews were stood down and left the scene at 7.32am."
