Emergency services descend on Salthouse Dock following safety concerns for a person

There was a huge emergency response at the waterfront this evening following concerns for the safety of a person.

Police officers and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service were responded to calls at Salthouse Dock, near Albert Dock, at around 8.45pm.

Two fire engines and a search and rescue team were at the scene on The Strand and were accompanied by specialist police negotiators.

A Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson confirmed that one person was taken to hospital for assessment.

Emergency services left the scene at around 9.47pm.

Police negotiators were also on the scene.
