Emergency services dealing with two-car crash outside the Metrocentre

A busy road outside the Metrocentre has been closed by police after two cars crashed.

The collision happened on Hollinside Road near to the shopping centre 's yellow car park at around 4.30pm on Thursday.

Police officers are at the scene and have been directing traffic.

Two fire crews, one from Colby Court and one from Swalwell stations, have been called to the crash.

It is believed one person is trapped inside one of the cars but emergency services are waiting for an ambulance to arrive before they can remove them.

Traffic is busy around Hollinside Road and it is not currently known when the road will reopen.

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service have asked drivers to avoid the area.
