The fire service said five engines were tackling the blaze in Bircotes which they were called out to at around 5.30pm on Tuesday, April 20.

In a tweet, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said they were dealing with the blaze which started in the Bassetlaw area, on the border with Doncaster.

The blaze started at around 5.30pm (Steve Harrison)

They said: "Five appliances are currently dealing with a large fire on Plum Tree Road, Bircotes. Smoke may be seen from some distance away."

At around 7pm they added: "Crews from Retford, Harworth, Mansfield, Worksop, Edlington, Stavely, Rotherham and Doncaster are working hard to fight the fire. Please avoid the area and if affected by smoke please close all doors and windows.

"The incident is starting to scale down, however we are still asking people to avoid the area and to keep all doors and windows closed."
