Emergency services confirm reason behind heavy presence in Old Market Square

A statement has been released after emergency services were spotted in Old Market Square.

Three police cars and an ambulance were seen parked up next to the Winter Wonderland at about 2pm on Thursday, November 18.

The Christmas Market opened to the public for the first time on Monday, November 15.

Nottingham Police have confirmed that officers had helped a man who had collapsed in the city centre.

Their vehicles had been in the area patrolling and making sure everyone at and around the market were safe.

East Midlands Ambulance Service has released a statement after they were called to the medical emergency.

One person was assessed at the scene and later discharged.

A spokesperson for East Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 1.28pm on 18 November to Long Row in Nottingham. The caller reported a medical emergency. We sent a community first responder and a double crewed ambulance. One patient was assessed and discharged on scene.”

A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Police said: "Cars are there for routine patrols. The other reason is because officers came across a man that was collapsed and helped him."
