Emergency services close off main road after crash between bus and van

A main road in east Manchester has been closed off after a crash between a bus and a van.

Ashton New Road is currently blocked both ways near the junction with Clayton Lane, according to traffic alert service Inrix. A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson confirmed that they received a report of a crash involving a bus and van at around 12.15pm.

Passengers were on the bus at the time but no-one is believed to have been injured in the crash. Fire crews were also called to assist police officers.

Drivers are being urged to avoid the area. Some bus services are being diverted away from the scene.

In a tweet, Stagecoach said: "Routes 216/230/231. We're experiencing delays averaging 25 minutes along the routes. This is due to a Police incident on Ashton New Road where services are currently diverted via Edge Lane and North Road. Sorry if this is affecting your journey with us today."

MancTraffic said: "Bus v van crash on the A662 Ashton New Rd at Clayton Lane/Clayton St near Clayton Hall Tram stop. Slow on approaches. Use North Rd and Canberra St."
