Emergency services called to Tyne Bridge with man on wrong side of railings

Emergency services are in attendance on the Tyne Bridge following concerns of a man on the wrong side of the railings.

Police were called to the bridge at 2pm to reports of a man in distress.

Firefighters and paramedics were also called to the scene to assist specialist officers who were talking to the man.

Police closed one lane of the southbound carriageway on the Tyne Bridge while emergency services dealt with the incident.

The man has now been brought to the right side of the railings and is receiving support.

Emergency services have now left the scene but drivers are still facing significant delays on the Tyne Bridge as a result of the incident.

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: "At 2pm today (Friday) we received a report of concern for a male on the Tyne Bridge.

"Officers and emergency services attended and the male was brought to safety."
