Emergency services called to shopping centre after takeaway fire

Emergency services were called to Westwood Square this week after a fire in a takeaway.

The blaze was put out prior to crews attending but it is understood there is smoke damage to adjoining properties in the row of shops and a premises above.

German Doner Kebab and Westwood Dental Practice are believed to have suffered damage after the fire started in a unit next to them.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman told Lanarkshire Live : “We were alerted at 8.26am on Wednesday, November 3, to reports of a fire affecting a commercial premises in Westwood Square, East Kilbride.

“Operations control immediately mobilised two fire engines but the fire was found to be extinguished prior to arrival.

“Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”
