Emergency services called to Mercedes van fire on M4 eastbound as traffic builds

Emergency services were called to a van fire on the M4 this morning (November 14).

There were long queues of traffic after the incident on the eastbound carriageway between J18 and J17 near Chippenham.

Crews from Avon Fire and Rescue and Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue attended, as well as police.

A spokesperson for the latter service said: "We were called at 11.24am to the M4 eastbound between junctions 18 and 17.

"Two crews from Yate and Bath attended. The Mercedes van was completely destroyed by fire.

"The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental."
