Emergency services called to John Lennon Airport over plane with 'landing issue'

Emergency services were called to John Lennon Airport today due to a light aircraft plane having technical issues as it tried to land.

A witness who works nearby said police cars, two fire engines and two emergency unit vehicles headed in the direction of the airport.

The pilot of the Piper Aztec PA27 reported a possible undercarriage problem as it carried two people on board.

However, it has been confirmed the plane landed safely at 10.22am this morning and no other issues surrounded the incident.

Emergency services stood down at around 10.30am this morning.

A spokeswoman for Merseyside Police confirmed the aircraft landed perfectly and there were no other issues.

They said: "A light aircraft had a technical issue at John Lennon Airport and emergency services stood down about half an hour ago.

"However, there were no other issues and the aircraft landed perfectly.

"There were no injuries or other problems."

A spokesman for John Lennon Airpor t said: "A Piper Aztec PA27 (twin engined light aircraft) with two people on board with the pilot reporting a possible undercarriage problem.

"However, it landed safely without incident at 10:22am."
