Police are calling for dashcam footage of a crash at Port Stephens on Tuesday.
The collision involving a truck and three cars on Nelson Bay Road near the Fullerton Cove Road intersection ground traffic to a standstill as emergency services rushed to the scene about 3pm.
Initial details indicated at least two people were trapped in their vehicles, as paramedics saw multiple patients at the scene.
A spokesperson for NSW Ambulance confirmed four people had been assessed and two were hospitalised.
Police later confirmed paramedics treated the 44-year-old female driver of a car at the scene before she was taken to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.
The 33-year-old male truck driver was not seriously injured.
At least 10 firefighters worked to free those trapped, as police guided traffic through diversions around the scene obstructing both lanes.
