Emergency services called to Albert Dock after woman trapped in Mersey mud

Emergency services were called to Albert Dock after a woman was trapped waist-deep in mud on the edge of the Mersey.

The coastguard, fire service and police all attended the scene, where a crowd had gathered.

Merseyside Police confirmed they received a call at 8.11pm of a woman in the mud behind the Museum of Liverpool.

One man who was walking along the promenade at the time said he heard sirens of emergency service vehicles.

He said: "As I got closer to Pier Head I could see they were stopping around the back of the museum, and crews where running out, some in rescue gear, and torches.

"Then I spotted the boat in the river with the search light on."

A spokesman for the police said the tide was out at the time of the incident and the woman was believed to be waist deep in the mud.

The woman has since been removed from the mud. She is not believed to be injured.
