Emergency services called after woman falls in River Avon

A specialist rescue team rushed to the aid of a woman who had fallen into the Avon River in the early hours of this morning (October 5).

Fire crews from Temple, Bedminster and Bath were called by a member of the public at just after 1am to reports of a 40 year-old woman in the river at Cumberland Road, Hotwells.

Fire crews from Temple, Bath and Bedminster rushed to the scene along with the Avon Fire and Rescue SWIFT water team.

An AF&RS spokesman said: “Someone had seen the woman fall into the water and called us immediately.”

One of the engine’s turntable ladders was extended out over the water and lines dropped into the harbour.

A specialist water rescue technician was then lowered into the water to bring the woman to safety.

Once on dry land the woman was handed over to waiting paramedics.
