Emergency services called after sudden death of woman in Ashington house

Emergency services were called following the sudden death of a woman in a Northumberland home.

Paramedics were called after a 35-year-old woman was found unresponsive in a property, on Hawthorn Road, Ashington, at around 12.30am on July 8.

But nothing could be done to save the woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene, and the police were alerted.

An investigation was launched with forensic officers understood to have been seen searching the area.

A 30-year-old man, who is known to the victim, was arrested in connection with the incident. He has since been released under investigation for separate offences.

However, Northumbria Police has now confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious and is now in the hands of the coroner.

A spokeswoman said: "Shortly after 12.30am July 8, police received a report of a sudden death at an address on Hawthorn Road, Ashington.

"It was reported that paramedics had been called after a 35-year-old woman was found unresponsive at the address. Sadly she was pronounced dead at the scene.

"An investigation was launched and a 30-year-old man, who is known to the victim, was arrested the same day in connection with the incident and has since been released under investigation for separate offences.

"The investigation continues on behalf of HM Coroner, but police are no longer treating the death as suspicious."
