Emergency services called after car goes over edge of steep bank

Emergency services came to the aid of a woman last night after the car she was in went over the edge of a steep bank at a beach.

The vehicle appears to have gone straight down the grassy slope before coming to rest near the water’s edge.

The incident happened at around 8pm at the Bayhead Road in Portballintrae, Co Antrim.

A single fire appliance from Portrush Fire Station attended the incident, the NIFRS says.

They added: “Firefighters were called to a one vehicle Road Traffic Collision on the Bayhead Road, Portballintrae last night.

A PSNI spokesman said police “have charged a 44-year-old woman with driving with excess alcohol in breath”.
