Emergency services called after car flips onto its roof on Bensham street

Emergency services were called to a residential street after a car flipped onto its roof.

The crash happened on Rectory Road, in Bensham , Gateshead , at around 8.15am on Friday.

Firefighters, paramedics and police officers arrived at the scene and found a vehicle upside down.

The area was taped off while the car was recovered and a 30-year-old man received treatment for minor injuries.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "At 8.51am today, police received a report of a one-vehicle collision on Rectory Road, Gateshead.   

"A 30-year-old man received treatment at the scene for minor injuries. The road has since reopened."

The North East Ambulance Service sent one hazard area response team and an ambulance to the street.

A spokeswoman added: "We were called at 8.42am to a report of a road traffic collision.

"One patient was discharged at the scene."

And the Tyne and Wear Fire Rescue Service said they sent two crews who helped to make the area safe.

Their spokeswoman added: "We arrived at the scene at 8.43am. There was a car on its roof and one casualty in the car.

"The police and ambulance service were also in attendance."
