A fire at the Australian National University campus has been extinguished with a single demountable classroom ruined in the blaze.
Emergency services had the fire under control before any other property was damaged. No one was harmed.
The fire was contained within the 13B building on the Acton campus, between Baldessin Precinct Building and School of Art and Design.
ANU has advised that the demountable building was a temporary space for administration which was slated to be decommissioned later this year.
ANU has notified affected students and staff that all classes scheduled in building 13B on Friday have been cancelled.
All those with permits for the Baldessin car park are advised to park in other areas across campus in non-reserved and non-disabled places, with no infringements enforced.
"As always, the safety of our people and community remains our highest priority," an ANU spokesperson said.
There will be no access to the Baldessin Precinct Building, Baldessin car park, Melville Hall and Tjabal Centre for Indigenous Higher Education, Centre for Arab and Islamic Studies, School of Art and Design and Beryl Rawson Building throughout the day.
ACT Fire and Rescue, ACT Ambulance and ACT Policing were called to the campus before 7am on Friday, with the fire under control about 8am.
While there may be lingering smoke in the area, emergency services have advised no surrounding buildings were under threat and no road closures are in place.
Atmospheric monitoring in neighbouring buildings was conducted once the blaze was contained.
An investigation will now commence in an effort to determine the cause of the fire.
