Emergency services baffled as bleeding man escapes house fire through upstairs window - then disappears

A bleeding man fled the scene of a house fire after escaping through an upstairs window in a 'strange' incident that has left emergency services baffled.

Firefighters were called to the blaze in Kestrel Drive, Bury , at about 1.40am after neighbours smelled smoke coming from a first floor flat.

When crews arrived at the scene, they found a fire burning inside a living room cupboard.

They found evidence of blood in the room and on the window sill, but no-one was inside the property at the time.

After putting out the blaze, firefighters and police carried out a search of the surrounding area.

However, the bleeding man could not be traced.

The unusual incident comes just weeks after a man died following a house fire on the same street.

Neighbours living in Kestrel Drive, on the Dicky Bird estate, said they saw the man emerge from the property 'fully in flames' in the early hours of Saturday, October 5.

The 22-year-old was taken to Wythenshawe Hospital with serious burns, and died days later.

The latest incident was attended by the same crew.

Keith Hadley, crew manager at Bury Fire Station, said: "It was strange after the events a few weeks ago. Luckily, it wasn't as serious.

"It looked like someone might have been squatting there because there was not much furniture in the house and the door was locked up."

It is not yet known whether the two incidents are linked.

Greater Manchester Police have been approached for comment.
