Adelaide woman killed and man injured in truck and car crash on SA highway

The crash occurred at the intersection of the August and Copper Coast highways near Port Wakefield.

A woman has died, and a man taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH) with serious injuries following a crash between a car and a truck just north of Port Wakefield, about 100-kilometres from Adelaide.

Police said a 72-year-old woman, from Henley Beach South, died at the scene of the crash, which happened about 10:20am at the intersection of the Augusta and Copper Coast highways.

An 82-year-old man, also from Henley Beach South, was flown to the RAH and is in a serious, but stable condition.

The truck driver — a 51-year-old man from Angle Vale — was not injured.

Major diversions were in place for those travelling northbound towards Port Augusta, with no access along the Augusta Highway for heavy vehicles.

Traffic was being diverted onto the Copper Coast Highway.

All roads are now open to traffic.

The intersection was recently named by the RAA as one of the most dangerous in the state.

In the five-year period between 2013 and 2017, there were 16 crashes at the intersection, resulting in two deaths and 17 injuries according to the RAA.
