A person has been found dead on an East Ayrshire railway line this afternoon.
The emergency services responded to a call around 3.20pm in the Stewarton area after being informed there was a "casualty" on the tracks.
Members of the British Transport Police (BTP) and paramedics raced to the location but the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.
The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will now be prepared for the coroner.
"Officers were called to the line in Stewarton at 3.20pm following reports of a casualty on the tracks," a BTP spokesperson said.
"Paramedics also attended, however, sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
"Officers are now working to identify the person and inform their family.
"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
ScotRail confirmed the line was reopened just after 5.30pm but had earlier warned that services between Glasgow Central and Carlisle/Newcastle were subject to changes and cancellations.
In a tweet, the operator stated: "The line has now reopened.
"We're working hard to get services running back to schedule but there may be some delays as staff and trains are out of position. Thank you for your patience this evening."
