Emergency search for hill runner missing in Glenlyon

A major rescue search was made on Tuesday night and all day Wednesday for a man who is lost in the hills of Glenlyon.

Tayside Mountain Rescue Team and Police Scotland set up an incident control point at Invervar from which volunteers have been making a search of the rugged terrain.

The search for a man - 43 year-old Chris Smith - began on Tuesday evening, when he failed to return to his holiday accommodation from a planned run up a cluster of nearby Munros.

Police and mountain rescue teams from Aberfeldy and Killin plus an RAF coastguard helicopter were out searching until 4am.

New teams of around 25 searchers returned on Wednesday at 8am to continue scouring the hills where he disappeared. There was no update from police 24 hours after Chris went out, dressed in just his running gear.

More people took over the search on Wednesday afternoon and the heavy emergency presence continued after dark.

Chris' brother-in-law, Billy Milligan and cousin Ruth McKee ensured the appeal to find the father-of-two was circulated all over social media.

In it they explained that Chris, who is an experienced fell runner,  went out on Tuesday afternoon to complete a run up Meall nan Aighean, Carn Mairg, Meall Garbh and Carn Gorm. He had been expected to return for 5pm.

Chris' wife raised the alarm when he was not back with her and their two boys at their holiday rental at Invervar, situated just below the path up the hills.

"He may have become disorientated and ended up further afield. Please phone in any sightings," concluded the family appeal.
