A section of a key route through East Ayrshire will be closed until tonight.
Emergency works will take place on the A71 throughout this afternoon, the Ayrshire Roads Alliance (ARA) has confirmed this lunchtime.
The road closure is between the Galston roundabout and Newmilns and will cause disruption for motorists in the Irvine Valley area, and those looking to travel to and from South Lanarkshire and beyond.
In a tweet, the ARA said: "Due to emergency works, the A71 from Galston roundabout to Newmilns is closed.
"It is anticipated to be closed until 6pm this evening. A diversion route is in place – Galston roundabout onto A719 then onto A77."
Resurfacing works are ongoing on the A719 between Orchard Street in Galston and the A76 junction at Crossroads.
Daily road closures on that route are being implemented from 9am to 4pm each day with the scheme expected to be completed by Friday, March 5.
