Emergency rescue mission launched after person reported in Newark Marina

Firefighters were called to rescue a person in the water at Newark Marina - at 3.55am.

Two engines from the Newark Fire Station attended the incident in the early hours of Friday morning (February 26).

Two firefighters in water rescue kit, with assistance from Nottinghamshire Police, rescued the person who was taken into the care of East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS).

It comes after a large-scale search was sparked earlier this week when concerns were raised for the safety of four teenagers who were believed to have been in a canoe.

This incident was first reported to Nottinghamshire Police at about 7.20pm on Wednesday (February 24) by a member of the public.

The emergency services who attended Holme Pierrepont National Water Sports Centre to search for the four teenagers said no-one was found despite hours of searching.
