'Emergency protest' against Boris Johnson to be held in Glasgow tonight

An 'emergency protest' against Boris Johnson is being held in Glasgow this evening.

The "Stop Boris" rally, which will be held in George Square at 8pm and comes after the Prime Minister announced he would seek an extended suspension of Parliament ahead of a Queen's Speech on October 14.

The Queen approved the request from her home at Balmoral, Scotland at around 3pm.

Parliament will now be prorogued in the week beginning 9 September until 14 October, meaning MPs will have limited time to pass any laws that could prevent Johnson taking the UK out the European Union without a deal on October 31.

In response to the decision, a number of protests have been arranged in Glasgow, with another arranged by the Another Europe is Possible group for this weekend .

The Facebook event page for tonight's rally reads: "Boris Johnson, the government, and the Queen have decided our elected representatives do not get a say in No-Deal Brexit! Join us to say enough to these power hungry elites and to demand democracy!"

You can find out more about tonight's protest by visiting the Facebook event page .
