Emergency Kuwait Airways planes spotted over Glasgow as stranded residents are returned home

Middle Eastern residents stranded in Scotland have been taken home on specially chartered flights.

Kuwait Airways Boeing 777s have been spotted arriving and leaving Glasgow Airport this week.

The flights were used to pick up Kuwaiti nationals who were stuck here following the coronavirus outbreak.

Each of the planes can carry up to 368 passengers each and left for the Gulf on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Before the coronavirus crisis Glasgow did not run charters to the country and Kuwait Airways didn't operate there.

Glasgow residents were quick to spot the arrivals as the skies are largely empty in light of the pandemic.

Glasgow airport confirmed that the flights were repatriation flights and had left on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

No more flights are currently planned.
