A 42-year-old man has been taken into custody after authorities responded to two emergency incidents in Brisbane's north and south last night.

Police sources told the ABC the man's housemates called the police after he allegedly threatened to kill them. Police then found suspicious devices at the house.

Senior Sergeant Todd Sucic said the man was located inside a car in the inner-eastern Brisbane suburb of Coorparoo at 3:20pm before a declaration was made and specialist support teams were called in.

"We locked it down in a tight cordon with a view of planning for the worst and hoping for the best," he said.

Police said the man surrendered at about 4:20pm.

"Upon entry to the residence, police have located a plastic tub. Inside that tub there were devices that aroused our suspicion," Acting inspector Mark Muller said.

Acting inspector Muller said the objects in the tub "were enough concern to contact specialist police".

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services also attended the scene.

Surveillance equipment was also found in the car.

After speaking with police negotiators, the man is now being assessed by paramedics.

A controlled blast was carried out inside the house by the Explosive Ordinances Response Team as a precautionary measure, police said.

Police made a declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) shortly after 3:30pm for residents living in Coorparoo.

The exclusion zone included Stanley Street East, Tiber Street, Halifax Street, Milsom Street, Adina Street, Norman Avenue, Rome Street and Thackery Street.

At 4pm, a second PSPA was declared for the inner-northern suburb of Wooloowin, with residents told to stay away from Hamley Street, Adamson Street and Kedron Street.

Police revoked the PSPAs at 12:30am on Wednesday morning.

"There is no ongoing risk to any area within the original declarations and investigators thank the community for their patience," QPS said in a statement.

"The vehicle has been towed from the scene to a secure police facility for forensic analysis."

Senior Sergeant Sucic said the large-scale operation was undertaken to keep the community safe.

"We take precautions for reasons," he said.

"We like to, for want of a better term, overkill, so we overprotect to make sure we keep everyone safe.

"It was a great job from our specialist support officers and all police that responded."
