Emergency crews still tackling Arthur's Seat fire as public urged to avoid area

FIRE crews are still tackling a gorse fire which broke out on Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh last Sunday.

Emergency services were alerted to the blaze just after 4pm on Sunday after plumes of smoke were seen from Holyrood Park.

Four appliances were originally sent to the landmark, with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) area commander saying the cause was likely human activity.

There have been no reported casualties from the incident and locals reportedly helped emergency services carry out evacuations from the area.

As of Friday, the SFRS confirmed two appliances remain on the scene as they work to dampen down the remaining hotspots.

Members of the public have been urged to avoid the area, though the service has requested that no further alerts are sent to the control room.

An SFRS spokesperson said: “Crews remain in attendance at a fire in the open at Arthur’s Seat, Holyrood Park, Edinburgh.

“Firefighters are continuing to dampen down hotspots, and we ask members of the public to avoid the area.

“Additionally, there is no longer a need to alert our Operations Control room about this fire, as we are receiving a number of calls about this incident.”
