Search continues at Scots reservoir for male swimmer last seen 'struggling' in water

Emergency crews scrambled to a Scots beauty spot amid reports of a 'struggling swimmer' and ' overturned dingy'.

Police, fire and ambulance officers were called to Threipmuir Reservoir in the Pentlands, Edinburgh on Wednesday afternoon.

The alarm was raised just after 5.35pm, according to Edinburgh Live.

A police helicopter and four cop cars descended on the scene.

Soon after officers began speaking to visitors and witnesses as part of their investigation.

The area was sealed off by police.

The picturesque body of water is a popular summer spot for locals and visitors alike, with dozens flocking there to make the most of the sunny weather.

It is also popular among wild swimmers, but signage warning them to be careful is present along the banks.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) crews and ambulance teams also joined the search and rescue party.

On Thursday morning a spokeswoman from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the incident to the Record.

She said: "We were called out to an incident at that location at around 5.30pm on Wednesday.

"We do not have any more information to provide on this.

"Any further detail would come from Police Scotland."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 5.35pm on Wednesday, 14 July, police were called to Threipmuir Reservoir, near Balerno, following concern for a person seen in the water.

"Emergency services attended and carried out searches, however he was not traced.

"The search will continue today to locate the man.”

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman told the Record: "We received a call yesterday at 5.33pm to attend an incident and dispatched our special operations team and one ambulance to the scene.”
