Emergency crews rush to Edinburgh flat block amid ongoing incident

Emergency crews have rushed to the scene of an incident at a high rise block of flats in Edinburgh.

Fire and ambulance teams converged on Peffermill Court shortly after 6pm amid reports of an incident.

At least four appliances from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, armed with ladders and height equipment, joined the operation while the Scottish Ambulance Service ‘incident response unit’ was also dispatched.

Residents were spotted watching the action below from windows in the flats in images from the scene.

It is currently unclear why the incident has attracted such a heavy emergency presence, but eyewitnesses reported the operation appeared to take on a large scale.

One told Edinburgh Live: "I was just driving by when I saw fire engines and ambulances at the high rise flats in Craigmillar.

“I wondered what was going on. It looked like there were loads of firefighters with a lot of equipment but they were keeping people well back.

“Hopefully everyone is ok and they can deal with whatever is happening.”

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has been contacted for comment.
