Emergency crews race to car fire after smash on busy Edinburgh road

Emergency crews have raced to a car fire after smash on a busy Edinburgh road.

Cops and fire crews were alerted to the incident on Murrayfield Road at around 1:20pm on Thursday, December 2.

It's understood two vehicles have been involved in a collision.

Three fire engines were sent to tackle a car blaze at the scene.

An eyewitness told the Daily Record there was as a heavy police presence in the area.

Ravelston Dykes Road was partly locked down by cops as they dealt with the incident.

One man was rushed to hospital. The extent of his injuries are unknown.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 1.22pm on Thursday, December 2 to reports of a car on fire at Murrayfield Road, Edinburgh.

“Operations Control mobilised three fire engines to a collision which involved two vehicles.

"Firefighters extinguished a fire which affected one vehicle and assisted emergency service partners at the scene.

“One casualty was in the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service and crews left after ensuring the area was made safe.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 1.20pm on Thursday, 2 December, to a report of a two car crash on Murrayfield Road, Edinburgh, near the junction with Ravelston Dykes.

"Emergency services attended and one man has been taken to hospital. The road was closed and re-opened around 5.10pm.”
