The police were called to make sure there was no disruption to traffic at the roundabout.

A spokesperson from the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 4pm today to a medical incident outside 55 Degrees North.

"A paramedic crew attended and we asked for assistance from the police to make sure our vehicle parked at the roundabout wasn't causing disruption to traffic. One patient was taken to the RVI."

Northumbria Police confirmed it was a medical incident and their officers were there to support the NEAS.
