Emergency crews called to car fire on M5 in Bristol

A car caught fire on the M5 in Bristol – after the owner filled it up with the wrong fuel.

Fire crews from Avonmouth and Patchway were called out at 10pm yesterday to reports of a car on fire on the northbound carriageway of the M5 between junction 14 and 15.

When crews arrived they found the vehicle well alight on the hard shoulder.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used high pressure hose reel jets to extinguish the blaze.

Police and a crew from the Highways Agency were also on scene.

The vehicle is believed to have caught alight due to it being filled with the wrong fuel.
