Emergency crews called to A4 Portway crash in Bristol

A driver escaped without injury after crashing along one of the main routes in and out of Bristol.

All three emergency services were called to the A4 Portway this morning (Tuesday, May 11) following the single-car collision near Sea Walls car park.

Despite a dramatic photo of the scene showing the silver car flipped on the driver's side, with both air bags deployed inside, the fire service said all occupants got out safely.

Avon and Somerset Police tweeted at 9.40am advising that there was still congestion along the route.

The force said officers were called to the crash at about 8.45am along with fire and ambulance crews.

Officers added: "[We] attended to make sure the vehicle and its occupants were safe.

"Officers remain on the scene pending recovery."

Bedminster Fire Station shared the photo above of the aftermath, showing the damaged car in the bus lane next to the trees.

Firefighters described the collision as "minor" and confirmed that all occupants were safe and well.

First Bus advised passengers at 9.20am that some services would be affected.

It tweeted: "Emergency services are on site, The Portway P&R service & Weston Super Mare service X5 will be suffering delays."
