Emergency crews race to early hours incident in the Green Quarter after man becomes trapped in machinery

Emergency crews were called to the Green Quarter in the early hours of the morning following reports of an 'injured male'.

The M.E.N understands that a man became trapped in machinery at a premises, on Red Bank, in Manchester city centre.

The circumstances and extent of his injuries are not yet known.

Specially trained firefighters from a technical response unit attended.

Photographs show a large police presence on Red Bank in the early hours of Monday morning (November 30).

Four police vehicles and two fire engines attended the scene at around 4.30am.

Red Bank is populated by a number of high rise apartment blocks and several businesses.

One neighbour said he heard three bangs and saw some flashes of light at around 4.25am.

"Me and my neighbour both heard it," he said.

"There were loads of police and fire engines. They were in there for about two hours."

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called to reports of an incident involving a person and some machinery on Red Bank, in Manchester, on Monday, 30 November at 4.25am.

“Fire engines from Manchester Central, Salford and the technical response unit from Ashton-under-Lyne quickly attended the scene.

“The fire service were in attendance for around two hours and 10 minutes.”

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: “At around 4.20am on Monday 30 November 2020, police were called to reports of an injured male at a premises on Red Bank, Manchester.

“Emergency services are in attendance.”
