Emergency crews alerted as fire rages near Cambusnethan bing

Fire crews raced to extinguish fire near to a bing in Cambusnethan on Tuesday night.

Passers-by alerted the emergency services as flames could be seen from nearby homes in Louisville Avenue and Branchal Road.

One woman, who asked not to be named, was walking her dog when she saw the blaze.

After contacting 999, she told Lanarkshire Live : “I told the call handler it was a wooded area next to the bing with the nearest streets for access being Branchal Road and Louisville Avenue.

“You could see the fire between the houses. It looked like the fire was a fair size but it’s hard to tell as it’s from a distance.

“If I had to guess it was maybe a rubbish fire that’s got out of hand.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson confirmed there were no injuries as a result of the fire.

A spokeswoman said: “We were alerted at 7.10pm on Tuesday, February 1, to reports of a fire in the open near to Louisville Avenue, Wishaw.

“Operations Control mobilised one fire appliance and firefighters extinguished the fire.

“There were no reported casualties and crews left after ensuring the area was made safe.”
