Bushfire warning downgraded for Gingin, north of Perth

A bushfire burning in Cowalla, in the shire of Gingin, has been downgraded to advice as weather conditions have improved.

An emergency warning was issued earlier after a band of lightning sparked multiple fires in the area.

The fire, about 120 kilometres north of Perth, is now contained and controlled.

There is no longer a threat to lives and homes in the area.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services said a number of small fires sparked by lightning are still burning across the area.

More than 100 hectares of bushland has been burnt.
