Bushfire warning for fire in Augusta-Margaret River downgraded

The fire started near Brockman Highway in Courtenay.

A bushfire warning for the shire of Augusta-Margaret River has been downgraded but homes remain under threat.

The warning covers people in the area bounded by Brockman Highway, Courtney Road, Payne Road and Wall Road in Courtenay.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) said the fire started near the intersection of Brockman Highway and Beck Road.

It was reported at 12.42pm.

People in the area have been urged to leave if the way is safe, or get ready to defend their homes.

DFES advises leaving at the last minute is deadly.

The bushfire is contained and under control.

Fire crews from the Shire of Augusta-Margaret River are managing the blaze.
