Bushfire burns through 80ha of land north-west of Melbourne

A bushfire burning near Smeaton, north-west of Melbourne, that has spread through 80 hectares of land has been brought under control.

The blaze broke out on Creswick Newstead Road.

Authorities said no communities were under threat but smoke may still create a visibility hazard.

Several aircraft and 30 tankers had been sent to bring the fire under control after an emergency warning was issued on Saturday afternoon for the communities of Campbelltown, Cotswold, Glengower, Moolort, Strathlea and Ullina before being downgraded.

An advice-level alert has also been issued for Mount Cameron, Majorca and Mount Glasgow for the bushfire travelling in a northerly direction towards Campbelltown.
