Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency has shown steady growth at the box office during its first 10 days, benefiting from the Republic Day weekend.

Emergency Movie Review

The political drama, which explores the tumultuous Emergency period in India, has earned an estimated Rs 16.74 crore net so far. After collecting Rs 14.3 crore during its first week, the film started its second week on a slow note, garnering just Rs 40 lakh on Friday. However, collections improved on Saturday with an estimated Rs 85 lakh, and the Republic Day holiday which fell on Sunday, brought a further boost, contributing Rs 1.19 crore on Sunday. The second weekend’s total now stands at Rs 2.44 crore.

With its 10-day total approaching Rs 17 crore, Emergency continues to inch toward the Rs 20 crore milestone.

Directed and produced by Kangana Ranaut, the film also sees her star as former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The film delves into the historical months of the Emergency period. The ensemble cast includes Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, Milind Soman, and the late Satish Kaushik, adding gravitas to the narrative.

Despite its delayed release on January 17, Emergency has faced hurdles, including censor board issues and protests from Sikh organisations over alleged misrepresentation of facts.

The film also faced stiff competition at the box office with Abhishek Kapoor’s Azaad, starring newcomers Aaman Devgan and Rasha Thadani. In its second week, the film faced additional competition from the action film Sky Force, which earned over Rs 61 crore in its debut weekend.
