The founder of family ceramics firm EMC Tiles is to take a step back from the company as it marks its 40th anniversary.
Barry Slawson, who is also managing director, says the time is right to make a change at the top of the Nottingham firm, as he takes on the role of chairman and three of his sons are appointed directors.
The firm, known officially as East Midlands Ceramics, is now headquartered at Southglade Business Park but has expanded over the years to showrooms in Leicestershire and Derbyshire.
Mr Slawson, who founded the company in a small shop in Nottingham, said: "Forty years in business is real milestone for the company and I have decided to make it a personal milestone too, with a move to a chairman’s role.
"I believe the time is right and feel I can hand over the day-to-day running of our company in total confidence that we have the most able and experienced team to take us forward."
Mr Slawson's sons, Philip, Martyn and Stephen, will take on key roles in buying, IT support, sales and trade services. They will team up as joint managing directors but will have continued responsibilities for their own sectors as well.
EMC Tiles, which employs 53 people, has won several national awards for its work in the commercial and domestic retailing market.
The firm relocated to its current headquarters, a 20,000 sq ft unit, in 1989 but began expanding in 2000 with a new unit in Loughborough. Further expansion has since continued with a new site in Leicester being acquired in 2014 and a Derby branch opening this year.
